If you need help deciding on the agent for you or want to locate a particular agent, our new Agent Assessment and Locator service can help.  This service started when some clients who got a huge response from a query weren't sure how to decide, and we provided some research and personal consulting.  In addition, some clients have asked about getting contact information after a computer crash.  Now the service is available both to clients and others.   It is also included along with consulting on choosing an agent.

Here's how it works.  You tell us the names of the agents you are considering, and we give you a brief overview of that agent with the following information drawn from various industry sources:

• - Size (based on number of clients)

• - Number and type of deals in the past 2 years

•        (based on the size of the advance, in 6 month increments)

• - Location (city, state, and address)

• - Phone number

• - Fax number (if available)

• - E-mail (if open to e-mails)

• - Web site (if available)

• - Membership in AAR (Association of Author's

•          Representatives)

• - Agency name and size (if a member of a larger agency)

• - Nonfiction and fiction interests.

You receive a report for each agent with this information, along with tips on how to interpret the results.  Then, you can use this information to help prioritize which agents to contact or obtain further information from other sources (such as asking the agents about the clients they have represented and their publications, or doing more research on a small number of agents).  Once you narrow down your choices, much of your decision will depend on your personal chemistry with the agents you are considering and how enthusiastic they are about your project.
